I couldn;t manage that when I had a track of 200! I'd also like to know why a publisher accepted a book with a heroine who had cancer while rejecting mine with a diabetic heroine on "health" grounds... and why Harry Potter was published when all MY publishers were saying NO WITCHES. And why Unfortunate Events was published when MY publishers were saying - NO GOTHICS. And so on. -- posted by Sallyodgers » WebbQuest - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Enjoyed the interview In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Enjoyed the interview posted by Sallyodgers:Sally, I have noticed you don't tend to hype many of your books and this explains why! Here I just thought you were inordinately humble, LOL. Anyway, your contract's details sound good -- Scholastic is big and the book club should give you some decent royalties. So happy!! -- posted by WebbQuest » WebbQuest - Re: Re: Congratulations In response to Re: Congratulations posted by Sallyodgers:I would bet my life that bloke would want your secrets, the good stuff involving being gifted enough to produce over 200 wonderful books! About the cancer acceptance -- maybe this is because cancer, being deathly, is more pressing a concern than diabetes? I'm not totally sure, just a thought. As for the NO GOTHICS or WITCHES. It sounds like America has the whole Hollywood movie thing going for it and is influenced by books that would make great movies -- so MOVE HERE ;) -- posted by WebbQuest » Sallyodgers - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Enjoyed the interview In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Enjoyed the interview posted by WebbQuest:Hyping our own books is frowned on here. I sent out presspacks once, and got 0 replies. Expensive exercise, and it taught me NOT to bother! -- posted by Sallyodgers » Sallyodgers - Re: Re: Re: Congratulations In response to Re: Re: Congratulations posted by WebbQuest:Hah! The reason Aussie publishers give for NO WITCHES is that America doesn't like them! -- posted by Sallyodgers » humorous_sage - Re: Re: Congratulations In response to Re: Congratulations posted by Sallyodgers:Anyone who deciphers the editor's rational has it made. However, I have come to the conclusion that we should always treat editors as though they are always right. That approach is so much safer. -- posted by humorous_sage » WebbQuest - Re: Re: Re: Re: Congratulations In response to Re: Re: Re: Congratulations posted by Sallyodgers:Sal, you can never win, ay! ;) But now witches are "in" in America -- thus the "Witches" book series, Sabrina, Harry, the show "Charmed" ... -- posted by WebbQuest » WebbQuest - Re: Re: Re: Congratulations In response to Re: Re: Congratulations posted by humorous_sage:Yes, guess it does come down to the editor, as in one person, making THE decision! -- posted by WebbQuest » humorous_sage - Re: Re: Re: Re: Congratulations In response to Re: Re: Re: Congratulations posted by WebbQuest:I find it interesting that no two editors seem to have the same "take" on my work. I've had editors who bought 95% of my submissions and others who didn't even respond. C'est la vie. -- posted by humorous_sage » WebbQuest - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Congratulations In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Congratulations posted by humorous_sage:LOL -- Ain't it the truth Hank! -- posted by WebbQuest « Previous 1 2 3 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
