» Tina_Coruth - Now it makes sense! Hi John,I come from a union family. I was just barely a teenager during the '64 campaign. It seems to me that Miller's name sparked some unkind comments -- now I know why! Your graphics are great -- what a blast from the past!!!! Thanks for another fascinating article. Tina -- posted by Tina_Coruth » Mugwump53 - Re: Now it makes sense! Hi, Tina.Being a bit (but just a bit) younger than you, I do not remember much about Miller except his name. I heard a great deal about Barry Goldwater as my father was an avid supporter. It was only the second Presidential campaign I really remember, and the first in which I really remember hearing any discussion of issues. I was not aware of his strong anti-union stands, although I always knew the GOP was not exactly a friend of labor. What surprised me was his strong stand in favor of civil rights at a time before it became popular, or even acceptable. It seems there was a courageous side to him. I also found it intertesting that Barry Goldwater chose him as a sunning mate, given his opposing (actually, diametrically opposed) stand on civil rights. Glad you liked the graphics. I finally found a source of images I can use that is not copyrighted. There have been so few I have found so far. Thanks again, as always, for dropping by and letting me know how you felt about the article. Have a truly wonderful holdiay season!

He certainly took an unambiguous stand on issues. I still find it interesting that he was so conservative and yet pro-civil rights in the 50s and early 60s. -- posted by Mugwump53
