» linkin02park - why do you think dewey lost in the election of 1948?

Everyone thought that Dewey was gonna win but he didnt, Truman did. Why do you think that this happened?

» Mugwump53 - Dewey Blew It

There is no quick answer to your question. An over-simplified answer would be that Truman was a charismatic campaigner who struck the right note with the American voters. Dewey was not charismatic, and was terribly over-confident. Truman campaigned hard, and in person. Dewey met with leaders and came across stiffly when speaking. As this was one of the first "media" campaigns, Truman gained a big advantage, and Dewey didn't.

For more details, read my earlier article "Election Surprises: Truman's 1948 Victory" which was published on December 10, 1999. Check under "articles" and go to some of the older articles (they are listed in order by publishing date). If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
