» Tina_Coruth - Imagine being sworn in as President

Hi John,

Imagine being sworn in as President and then going back to sleep! I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that it was Coolidge!

As with most Americans, I imagine, the photo of Johnson being sworn in is burned in my brain along with a lot of other images from that time.

On a brighter note... I just can't leave out a New Hampshire connection(LOL), although I'm sure you already know -- George Washington was sworn in by the then president of the Senate, John Langdon of New Hampshire!

As always, thank you for a very enjoyable and informative article. I look forward to the next one!
Tina

» Mugwump53 - New Hampshire Connection

Hi Tina. Glad you liked the article. There is a New Hampshire connection, but it is not Langdon swearing in Washington. Washington was sworn in by Robert Livingston, Chancellor (Chief Justice) of New York.

John Langdon administered the oath to Vice President-elect John Adams nine days earlier. He also presided over certain ceremonies for both men. It was Langdon that wrote the letter to Washington officially notifying him of his election to the Presidency.

Sorry to spoil your New Hampshire connection. There is nothing wrong with a Vice connection, as long as you don't get caught. {G}

Hi John,
Thank you for the heads up! I'm glad I mentioned my misinformation here in your discussion. While my face is red, I am relieved that I have the correct information now!!

I agree, the Vice connection is fine. We just won't tell the news media! LOL

Thanks again, John. :-)

Glad to be of help, Tina. But you have nothing to be red-faced about. Glad to see that people are still proud of their vice connection in New Hampshire. {G}

sworn in by his father? I see why they did a second "swearing-in." These facts are most interesting, as usual, John. Sounds like a circus at times.

I remember when Kennedy was shot but I didn't know how Johnson was sworn in. That must have really been tense.

By the way, thanks for dropping by and setting me straight! Needed that. Appreciate it.
