» Tina_Coruth - Very interesting and sad.

Hi John,

This is another very interesting and informative article. How sad that Hannah never got to see her husband and sons during the White House years. Yet, as you said, her legacy was a great contribution. Thank you!

Greetings from the Ossining Village Historian! There was yet ANOTHER woman in MVB's life, my dear, late mother was convinced that in an earlier life, she was courted by our future 8h president.
I remember, once, many years ago (more than 25 years), we attempted to visit the president's home, Lindenwald, in Kinderhook, NY. Alas, the home had NOT YET been opened to the public. It was designated as a national historic site during the Ford administration.
So, what did my mother and I ended up doing? We had a picnic lunch at the president's gravesite.
Oh, by the way, the site of Hannah and Martin's wedding is now a quaint, but very exclusive restaurant aptly called 'The President's Wedding.' A friend of mine has been there.

What a great spot for a picnic. Did your mother tell you anything interesting about her former beau? She must have had some interesting insights.

Haven't seen you here for a while. Glad to have you back again. Thanks for the personal notes.

Hello!
We had a wonderful time that day. My mother had an endless fascination with MVB, and told me some interesting stories about 'their time' together.
Years later, when I was in college,I treated myself to touring the Lindenwald estate when I got on the Dean's List. It turned out to be a repeat effort...(4 times) The curator nicknamed me 'The Dean's List kid.'
I have been out of action lately...I had two major surgeries on May 2...lots of unforeseen complications, extended hospital stays...It's nice to visit your site. You have no idea how much I missed you when I was laid up in the hospital.

» jerrib - A Lady

It's really a shame when this woman was so loved by her husband and so devoted that she missed being by his side in the Presidency. I am always amazed at what a toll TB had on our history.

Enjoyed this and your discussion area, John. I used to live by someone who swore they were involved in our country's history in a previous life.

Mug, you must really research your information before you write. You were right on the money when talking about Abraham Van Buren's Mexican War record. Although he was a pay master a very important and trust worthy position i thought it a bit odd that he would be promoted for bravery but he was just as you said. From Major to Lt.Col. Your accuracy in these articles is amazing. You have my respect sir.
