Thanks, Tina. I'm glad you are enjoying this series of articles. It is turning out to be a much longer series than I originally thought it would be.

Interesting question about Lincoln. He would have been a relatively young man (for a retired president). I read somewhere that he had discussed (in that famous carriage ride, I believe) his plans to travel around Europe after his term ended.

Still, an interesting question. He certainly would have had many options open to him.
