» Brian Tubbs - Further Adams Lineage

Enjoyed the article, John. Do you or anyone know if the Adams lineage is still with us? Did Charles have children? And so on.

» Mugwump53 - "Adams, Adams, and More Adams"

Yes, there were further Adams men in government service. Actually, there was a fourth generation Adams, who I believe was also Minister to the Court of St. James. After that, they were still around, but never reaching the same prominence in government service.

I may do an article on the 4th Adams in the future.

» jerrib - This man quietly made a difference in history.

Appreciate you bringing him to the forefront. Our history books don't cover the "whole story" - it's great to learn about others who did not want, need or get recognition for their worthwhile deeds.

Thanks,

Jerri

And another fine article. Yes, he was not the Ben Franklin of the Revolution but he was just enough to keep England from joining forces with Confederacy. It's also interesting to note that when the Alabama with down in June of 1864, it was an Englishman on the vessel "Dearhound" that rescued Seems. I have never really thought about it before but i wonder if Adams somehow did not influence the battle between the Alabama and Kersage? With Lincoln's nomination in doubt in 64 and an English made ship vrs an American made. Hmmm interesting

Yes, Semmes was rescued by a wealthy Englishman in his yacht. Many of the English came out to watch the battle in their yachts, much like the Congressmen came to watch the Battle of Bull Run at the beginning of the war. I don't think Adams had much to do with that battle, as he had not been in touch with the Kearsage, which had been chasing Semmes for the better part of a year.

Thanks for providing the extra information on the Adams family.

There is a story about Secreatry of the Navy Adams. I forget the congressman, but he saw Adams in his office, and complained about a constituent who was turned down by the navy for having bad teeth. The congressman complained, saying that the applicant would not be required to bite the enemy. Adams replied that he would, if Congress kept cutting naval appropriations.
