» Brian Tubbs - Good Article

This is one of the most important precedents set in U.S. history, yet it is very under-rated in our history books and collective memory. Most Americans probably wouldn't even recognize the name "John Tyler." Good article, as always.

Because of Tyler's party problems and his eventual support of the Confederacy, he is more forgotten than he should be. Remembering the Pre-Emption Act, the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, the China Treaty and the Resolution on Texas, Tyler did not have such a bad record as one might believe, especially for a Vice-President finishing another man's term.

I liked this article as well as your others Mug. Did not Tyler have two wives? I think i remember reading where one was in a wheel chair.
Perhaps one reason Tyler is forgotten is because of what you said in his participation with the Confederacy. When he died in 1862 the North did very little if nothing about his death insofar as newspaper articles. So i can understand when books were written in the post civil war how his name would be on a very low key. On the other hand he made the front page of the Richmond Examiner in Virginia when he died.
You are as old as i am so maybe you remember this on television Mug, If it was not "Whats my Line" it was a show like it. Anyway it was in the 1950's. The panel had to guess who this fella was. It turned out that President Tyler was his grandfather. I still remember Gary Moore saying not his great-grandfather but his grandfather. LOL

In response to message posted by FortBrooke1824:

Yes, Tyler had two wives. Between the two wives, Tyler fathered 15 children, which is still the Presidential record. You can read about them at my article "Presidential Children" Tyler's 15, Still A Record: at:

The man on the TV show you mentioned could easily have been Tyler's grandson since Tyler youngest child lived until 1947. Another lived until 1935, and two others lived until 1927.
