Which First Lady was served with a suit by her first husband for the crime of bigamy? This same woman was plagued with rumors of adultry.

That would be Rachel Donelson Robards Jackson. She was never actually First Lady. She died in December 1828, and her husband, Andrew Jcakson, was not inaugurated until March 4, 1829.

John,

Oops! I didn't see that she was never really First Lady in the info that I read, but maybe I overlooked it. However, it was Rachel Donelson Jackson. How do you know all this about the many First Ladies?

Because of her close relationship to Andrew Jackson and how close she came to being First Lady, she is often referred to as a First Lady.

As to my knowledge of First Ladies, you might be interested to know that I am the editor of Presidents & First Ladies on that excellent site, Suite 101. {G}

Also, check out an article I wrote in March 2002:

Keep these excellent questions coming. I am enjoying them (when I get to them before Ossining, that is!)

John,

I know you are the CE of Presidents and First Ladies. I am your ME. I enjoy your topic, but had never read your article on Rachel Donelson Jackson. It is excellent. I learned a lot from it.

I enjoy posting the questions. I am trying to find one that will baffle you and Ossining. I will continue trying.

Let me commend you on your knowledge of your topic. I would like to invite you to write a guest article for my Biographies topic. Let me know if you would consider it.

Mary

Mary, I know you are my ME. I was trying to be funny (and apparently not succeeding). That's what the "{G}" was for. Oh, well.

Keep trying to stump us. This is a lot of fun. thanks.
