» Treci_B - another day of imfamy

Thank you, Vincent, for such a thoughtful and thought provoking essay. Reading it brought all of the emotions and images back to mind that keep replaying like a bad dream. I've stopped watching television; its just too close. I was in New York last week. Toured the WTC, even went to the observation deck. I saw that skyline for 5 days. Now, it is fading from my memory and for some reason, I feel guilty and ashamed. There are no pictures, no postcards to remind me. I see it, but it seems like those images are the dream. I want to remember; the faces of the people who worked there who were so helpful and friendly, I thought all the bad things I heard about New Yorkers was a lie, the way the city looked so small but the world looked so large at the top of the towers, the beautiful NY skyline at night. I want to remember the city as it was, powerful, majestic, with its twin towers and still full of people hurrying to where they have to go. I want to tell my son he doesn't have to worry about Mommy flying, because it will be ok. I want to be able to walk into my building and enter with just a smile instead of standing in line for ID checks. I want all those who lost loved ones or who were injured to know that they are in my thoughts and prayers. But most of all, I want never to forget - There but by the grace of God, go I.
