POETS DEBATE THE WAR
This archived discussion is "read only".
» PDTW - POETS DEBATE THE WAR I went to the "Poets Against The War" web site looking for some poetic debate on the Iraq issue, and found it to be one sided -since it only permits anti-war poems to be posted. Although I am opposed to any War without good cause, my thoughts are that the current situation is important enough that views on the all side of the issue (i.e., poems that discuss perspectives that are for the war, undecided, etc.)should be a permissible subject. I am posting the sonnet below (Petrarchan rhyme scheme in Alexandrines, with varied meter)in an effort to initiate the creation of a list of poems fostering such poetic discussion. If you concur, feel free to add your poem to the list and/or send it out in e-mail to other poets you know who may contribute to this effort. My hope is that this will result in a full range of perspectives from poets world wide.Cordially, A Sonneteer From Canada RESOLUTION 1441 It shall be the first duty of all persons, who Have knowledge that a dog has bitten or injured, To immediately report on what occurred And to state where the subject dog has gotten to. Whomever owns the dog shall soon confine it, through A manner that shall prevent further harm incurred And shall for twelve days observe if its rage be cured, After which time inspections shall begin anew. IF said dog is stray, the owner’s role shall be filled By the police, who shall test it for rabies, plus Dispense treatment as the State Dog Warden directs. IF diagnosed as rabid, the dog shall be stilled Without delay; lest the same harm should come to us As after Hitler escaped Chamberlain’s aspects. 2/28/03 -- posted by PDTW
