Preaching Poetry: for JenniferRead the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only".
» KayDay - for Jennifer Jennifer, I got my feet wet first by going to open mic nights. The variety of poetry I found at those events really gave me perspectives on poetry, and the many different approaches.Admittedly, some of the poets at open mic night were what I term, "personal poets." They wrote poems for loved ones, and didn't want to venture beyond that safety net. But there were other poets who read, and were serious about the study of poetry. I enjoy the workshop setting because it gives me a physical platform where I can interact with others who love what I love. It can be amusing, as well. I taught a workshop on Net writing, and one woman in the audience almost sabotaged the session with dozens of questions, most of them about basic computer skills. How do you cut and paste? How do you find a search engine? How... I've got children, so I'm pretty patient, but her questions became so incessant I almost couldn't conduct the workshop. So, in exasperation, I asked her, "What kind of computer do you have?" "Oh," she said. "I don't have one yet. But I'm planning on getting one soon." Hope all is well with you--I'm glad you visited. It reminds me to visit your own fine site, and I'll do just that later today. As far as being a private poet goes, I do that too, still. Sometimes I just have to retreat into near solitude (except for immediate family), because I have so much that I want to write, and there are so many distractions. Take care. Always happy to see a fine writer like yourself visit my poetry corner. -- posted by KayDay
