» annej - Tangled Vines

I bought "Tangled Vines" at a used bookstore along with some May Sarton a while back and then forgot about it. With this reminder I got it out and have been skipping about reading this and that. What a great anthology!

I wondered why I didn't read it earlier then remembered I started it once. I think it's the topic. Mother and daughter material is so painful, even if it's just the pain of how deep the love is and therefore how vulnerable.

I think Lyn Lifshin really explores this so poignantly--The book Cold Comfort is my personal favorite. She has these lean short lines that just pack such a punch.

Thanks, as always, for reading, Anne. I hope this piece did her justice--I always get nervous when I write about other writers I admire.

Blessings.
