» Kastilla - Exercise over eating habits

I think maybe the best thing we can do for our children is not to obsess about teaching them a set of steadfast rules about how to eat, but instead, to teach them how to love and value their bodies and physical activity, and to recognize that food intake has to correspond to activity. After all, one can eat quite a lot if one is doing a ton of physical activity!

I've ranged from chubby to seriously obese during my life, and my immediate family all have similar stories; but our sveltest periods have all coincided with the times in our lives we were most active in sports or regular exercise. And since the point of worrying about weight is really just to worry about health, regular exercise is always better for us all than none - a larger active person is in far better shape than a thin sedentary one. Hopefully, our children can learn to enjoy themselves and be proud of themselves, without obsessing about their size.

Very well said Kastilla.

At the age my dd is (13mos) she's constantly in motion - walking, running and climbing. As she gets older I hope she continues to be active and that she'll prefer activities over watching TV.

Exercise and good eating habits are something I have the ability to teach her and I do try my best!
