» phoehne - Seat Belts sizing Is it too late to start a discussion of this article? I hope not because it important to me many others. Not only are car seat belts often too small we also have to deal with other situations. Can I fly? Will I be able to fasten the seatbelt on a plane? Where I can I obtain this information? How do I explain to my children that I love roller coasters but no I will not go on the rides with them because either the bars, belts, or whatever will be too tight or will not close at all. I'm not sure I can deal with the embarrassment of being asked to get off a ride because the safety equipment won't close. Cars are a more serious problem because we deal with them much more often but they are not the only area where we face great difficulty. -- posted by phoehne » Sadie426 - Re: Seat Belts sizing In response to message posted by phoehne:I definately think this is a topic that's always worth discussing! It's so hard to beleive that safety isn't a factor for some car manufacturers, for plus size people anyway. As for flying, there is an online site where you can buy a seat belt extender, so you can always have it with you when you travel and you can avoid the emabarrassement of having to ask for one. I'll have to get back to you with the web address. For what it's worth, myself and many of my online plus size friends have compared flying experiences and most have had no problems actually getting the belts to fit or with getting an extender from a flight attendant. Most of the time they are very discreet about providing them to you. I have the same problem with rides in amusement parks. I usually dont' even attempt to ride them unless I know for certain I will fit. It would just be so embarrassing to have to get off the ride with everyone watching and knowing why! One option might be to board at the back of the ride where not so many people would see if you have to get off. I'll look up the info on the airplane belt extenders and post it as soon as I have it available. Thanks for starting this discussion!! -- posted by Sadie426 » RCcola - Plus Size I have a seat belt that fits, but the seat itself is too small. Get that! But it is at times like this that remiind me it is not good being big. For me anyway. I dislike everything it is associated with. It's been ten years and I'm still not used to it. I took my first plane ride back in March and I was worried that the seat belt wouldn't fit(I didn't know about extentions then). On the way back I left my coat off just to be more comfortable.
