» MorgantheBlack - Marooning Hi Cindy. "Maroon" is a back-formation from "marooner" which is itself a corruption of the Spanish "cimarrona", meaning a runaway as opposed to a castaway. The original buccaneers were therefore "marooners". If they then chose to leave the ship, they were "marooned".
