Economics as Metaphysics

» tuc - Rawls and Foucault Is John Rawl's correct that extra capital is only justifiable to the extent that it provides additional advantage to the lower stratificationsof society?
-- posted by tuc » JS_Mill - don't think that "New Rawls" believes this anymore In later writings, Rawls seems to be advocating a "Political Liberalism" -- kind of like the idea that there must be no group which is systematically disadvantaged by the rules of society. (but I'm working from memory here and may be well wrong). There's a good book on it called "Liberals and Communitarians" by Mulhall and Swift.Don't think you'll ever get a metaphysics out of economics -- conventional microeconomics is really an axiomatic theory, while macro is an empirical social science. Schumacher's stuff isn't really all that good -- just a lot of aprioristic social theorising, much of which is empirically false. I have a bit more time for Galbraith, but only a bit. What do you mean by "economics as metaphysics"? jsm -- posted by JS_Mill » tuc - Nature of Reality i think of econ as a organised body of knowledge, much like a german sscience. A. Freeman has shown that the brain is a chaotic system. People from the Santefee Inst. are using chaos, to try and make money for their physics with chaos on the Money Market. It's been said that the stock market is also choatic, only not enough so to hit the big time. If the limiting conditions were removed from Micro and all limiting conditions were taken into acount with all vairables accounted for the this would resemble a bare-bones Nature of Reality. Then all you would have to do is add a normative Value Realism like that of E. M. Adams and Value would then determine the nature of the Normativity of what we should work towards. A organic unity as Nozick would have it. As far as i know hestill holds the record for the greatest number of patch recording at one time. Thats measuring voltage and a single ion gate. i think he did most of his work with eeg's globally on rabits. In summing up thirty years of work in 'Societies of Brain's' he finds that the next state of the brain is entirelly deppendant on the complete set of all prior initiall conditions.(just as with strange attractors) and -- posted by tuc
