» Red - good advice...

Mo,

This article is full of good advice for those who are setting up their first aquarium. I remember when we set ours up about 15 years ago and the problems we had. About 5 years ago, when Dwight has his heart surgery, we took the tank down. We just recently started it up and had none of the problems we had the first time. Live and learn. I wish I'd had this article way back when we first set up our aquarium. There's a lot of good advice included here.

I set up my first aquarium over 30 years ago and then packed it away for about 20 years. I befriended a person who is a fishkeeper and that is how I learned what I was doing wrong. I unpacked my tanks and have been back into the hobby for 3 years now.

I knew nothing about bacteria or PH. Yes, the water has to be clean but you also need to have bacteria and test the PH. Some fish need a higher PH. That is why I have fish that are easy to maintain.
