» Red - excellent...

Maureen,

This article is excellent. It's packed with information about hearing dogs. Interesting and well written. Thanks for doing such a terrific job with it. And the graphics are cute.

Meeko would have made a great hearing dog. If I'm in the computer room, I can't hear when someone knocks on the door. Meeko comes to get me and does the same if I don't answer the telephone. LOL Sometimes I don't want to answer it, but he insists. He prances until I pick it up.

He's had no special training. If he had of been trained, he would have been perfect for the job.

Thank you Mary and Tina for you compliments.

It's a little strange how this article turned out. I intended to do an article on why dogs have a keen sense of hearing. I came across a couple of websites that talked about the Hearing Dogs program.

I thought this was a very interesting topic to address. There may be hearing impaired people that don't know about this program and it would be nice to let them know there is help for them.

» Satirie - Very good!!

Maureen, thanks for reminding us all of an often-forgotten hero. The dogs' trainers don't receive nearly the attention they should be getting either. It must be a very rewarding job, knowing that the end result will be greatly improving someone's life. :-)

Wonderful article, Maureen. My Bear hears the door and telephone for me. I did not teach him, rather he intuitively knew that I did not hear the knock or ring and just became my ears on his own. Bichons are very perky normally, so when his head pops up I know he has heard something. He jumps up and down for the phone, and for the door, he goes there, sits and looks at it. Well, thanks for this interesting and timely article. V

Maureen,

I'm glad that you ran across those websites and that this article was the result. Wouldn't it be wonderful if one hearing impaired person who didn't know about this program was able to improve their life because of this artice? Way to go!
