baby Chloris
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » Jojo - Re: Re: Re: mama na bebe Chloris lets me sleep well at night and allows me a few hours during the day to do stuff - I am very lucky indeed. Usually I put her in the snugli and we walk around the neighbourhood, visiting, or to the mall, or whatever. Today is Saturday and I thought I'd check in on what is happening on the internet. Thanks for all your compliments and well wishes. She was indeed quite well-formed at birth facially, perhaps a testament to my strapping east-anglian build. Chloris was coming out very well, and an episiotomy was determined not necessary. The when her ear emerged on the next push, a hand appeared too. This was very difficult to push and to put things kindly, my nether regions were not happy about that. Still, they say tears repair better than incisions, and episiotomy are thought of as bad midwifery in many childbirthing circles. I must say having a midwife give me advice very early on in my pregnancy was good. She helped me stretch and get into shape for the birth. Anyway, now on day 10 I am over my stitches as promised, Chloris is settled, and the events of the labour are fading from my mind. I am trying to take time to write it down. I also caught a bad cold in the hospital - I hadn't been sick for 9 months and I was worn down from the birth. It started with a sore throat, then moved to a dry cough (impossible to cough comfortably with stitches) and then the sniffles. Now Chloris has the sniffles. Helg has gone up to the quarry for a 3 month camp. The first bargeload of granite 2002 comes out March 14. The business is going well and in the future we may all go to the quarry as a family. As you can imagine, we miss him immensely. On day four this gave me a very clear focus for my day-four tears. Being so markedly subject to hormonal waves is disconcerting. I wonder though, what I would have wept over were it not for the absence of my husband? He phones every night and sometimes gets the priviledge of hearing Chloris squeek and burp. She doesn't cry much, but when she does, she emits large lungfulls of wailing. She makes good use of her crying time. I keep my eye on her alot and generally feed her before she starts crying for it. Born 10 days ago at 8.5 lbs, she is now 9.5 lbs. I must be doing something right! They say fat babies are good healthy babies but I can't help but worry she is gaining weight inordinantly quickly. Any of you mothers out there who have words on this are encouraged to add their 2 cents. I am sure Gay will have an idea of weight gain on little babies -- You've known so many! My mother has been staying to help with the baby for the last week. It's been nice having her cook for me, leaving me time to look after myself -- very important after childbirth! I felt as if I had been hit by a truck last week (masked mainly by euphoria) but now through stretching, bathing and eating well, I am just about back up to 100%. The local paper phoned me up today to get the story on Chloris. The other paper, more of a community newsletter, phoned me up 2 days ago for the scoop. It's nice to live in a small community where such a common occurrence as the birth of a child does not go unnoticed by almost everyone. I have been flooded with hand-me-down sleepers and granny-knitted afghans. -- posted by Jojo » Jojo - Plantboy's Baby Girl Jared Shortman AKA Plantboy, who used to write Arid Climate Plants here at Suite101.com just had a baby girl on Feb 22, 2 days ago. As of that e-mail they had not chosen a name for her. Jared sounded completely overjoyed in his e-mail. It's nice to see that Jared's new girl's babydust is just as powerful as Chloris' is, and that it's not just me. There's nothing as exciting as getting e-mail from a proud new parent.-- posted by Jojo » Carol Wallace - Re: Re: Re: Re: mama na bebe In response to message posted by Jojo:Wow - you MUST live in a really small town to have newspapers phoning like that! But it sounds wonderful. I feel for Helgi, having to leave so soon after Chloris was born - but am glad he was there for the big arrival. And you sound like motherhood truly agrees with you. She is lovely - and in that little green suit - dare I say it - reminds me just a wee but of a garden gnome. -- posted by Carol Wallace » Gay_Klok - Re: Re: Re: Re: mama na bebe In response to message posted by Jojo:jojo, I have a new computer and have lost your email address so will thank you here for the beautiful card - it had pride of place on my kitchen dresser so I think of you and Chloris every day! Baby weight - I always thought that it was the little babies that put on weight the fastest but if she is letting you sleep at night, she obviously has a strong digestive system that is making the best of all that mother's milk Strange but Michele [my eldest] came into the world in exactly the same way. I was all alone really in Canada [no family] and felt very homesick. I stayed up all night doing crytic cross word puzzles [timing the contractions] so by the time she made her debut [6pm], I was rather tired too! The doctor started to massage my back ache and I started to go to sleep. He woke me up and said "Come on you have a lot of hard work to do now. Would you like to watch the birth?" he sent the sister away to get a mirror which put above me. "I can't see, I am short sighted," I said and so he sent the nurse away to get my glasses from my room. All was right as soon as I could see what I was doing and very soon I saw the little hand come out and wave to the world. What a wonderful site! I had no drugs and never had to for the next three babies - the nurse kept on putting a mask over my nose and I kept on pushing it off. I had quite a few stitches too and that was the most irritating thing waiting for the Dr to patch me up. He seemed to take for ages but must have done a very good job because I never tore again though the babies got bigger and bigger. I will have a look at your new photos now -- posted by Gay_Klok » MaggieM - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: mama na bebe Congratulations Jojo and Helgi! Chloris is beautiful. Gay gave me the news when we got back to Hobart after our trip around her beautiful island home, when we left, we still had no news. I love the photos of the family. All our best wishes to Mom, Dad and that "beaut" baby girl!Maggie and Jack -- posted by MaggieM » Jojo - Re: Re: mama na bebe Hi GayI didn't post the pictures taken of Chloris when she was not placid. Of course there are a few, but she is a healthy bawler with big lungs and only uses them when absolutely necessary. I have her in a crib part time now, although until she is rolling she is perfectly safe on the twin bed right next to mine. Handy too, since she's stopped sleeping 8 hours a night again and is waking every 2.5 to 3 hours for a feed. They say this is a good sign that she wants solid feeding, coined with the fact that she's now almost doubled her birthweight (She's 16 lbs). But she's still only 3 months old and because of that I'm reluctant to start. Here is the new URL for baby chloris' pictures... www.hardygranite.com/chloris.htm For all my regular readers, I hope to get back on schedule writing about perennials as soon as Chloris' dad gets home from a stint of working in Mexico. There's not much time for anything else right now. She keeps me very busy. -- posted by Jojo » Gay_Klok - Re: Re: Re: mama na bebe In response to message posted by Jojo:Lots of work on your own but don't worry, the babies soon become mobile and need even more time :=] so enjoy every moment. We were told to start them on a tiny smidge of ferax [forgotten how to spell!] at 6 weeks. All babies are different. James is 6 months old now and is on quite a lot of solid food -- posted by Gay_Klok « Previous 1 2 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
