» Hamie - How do you stop hyperventilating?

I usually cup my hands over my nose and mouth and breathe deeply in and out. It really helps calm me down.

» hospice - Breathing

Hamie,

I've found that taking deep breaths through my nose and letting it out slowly helps, especially if you don't have a paper bag handy.

I don't so much hyberventilate, but I find that I'm not breathing. I've found my self holding my breath. That's the first thing I look at when I start having a panic attack. You can also do this without anyone noticing. Nine times out of ten that is what's happening.

I also find that my shoulders are raised clear up to my ears. So if I concentrate on lowering my shoulders this also helps with the breathing exercise. Do you find that your shoulders are raised up when you have an attack?

Thanks for you in put.
