» lilfreedoms - North, South, West, and East!!

I have taken part in a few gatherings that involved American Indian as well as wiccan ritual beliefs. I remember being told about how the directions each stood for a different aspect of our lives?? I believe this is Native American, but I am wondering if the wiccan beliefs have a directional system as well? I know that the south was dealing with the inner child and the color red symbolized this,...but thats the only one I remember?
Thank-you

Hello:

The East, which represents the element of air, represents the beginning of life. The South, which represents fire, also represents the fiery years of the adolecent. West, which represents water, stands for adulthood. North, which represents earth, stands for old age. There are other correspondances to the directions/elements as well.

Oyisò,

Always move in a sun-wise direction unless you are doing your ritual just before or just after a great catastrophe, for this movement imitates the Thunder-beings who always act in an anti-natural way and who come in a terrifying manner, often bringing destruction.

South- the source of life, Childhood, Yellow
West- the setting sun of one's life, Midlife,Black
North- Purity, Elder, White
East- the source of life and light, of complete understanding, Red.

West is a place of honor for in the west one faces the east, from which comes the light, representing wisdom and illumination.

To travel North to South is the "red road" it is the good road or the straight way

To travel East to West is the "blue or black road" this is the path of error and destruction.

I hope this helped you. This is based on the Lakota tribe beliefs, each tribe and religion, such as wiccan, is slightly different but many times they are similar.

Namesté,

TrinityHawk
