I'm just curious how pagan parents handle the "skyclad" issue, and this includes people who teach their kids that nudity is natural and may practice nudism at home...

How do you manage this without the kid saying the wrong thing to the wrong person and having Social Services come pounding on the door?

I've yet to meet a Pagan who openly admits to including his/her underage kid in skyclad rituals. It's a very delicate subject.

My personal opinion is that while it's important to foster a healthy attitude about the body and towards sex, it's best to not include children in skycladclad rituals while they remain below the legal age of consent. The mainstream view of Paganism and Witchcraft is just too negative at this point in our history. Any news of children and rituals that include nudity is bound to be seen as inappropriate at best and as sexual abuse at worse.

I was thinking more along the lines of stuff done privately at home rather than group ritual. Not that I work skyclad, but I *do* know folks who have a rather casual nudity policy in their homes.

We don't do skyclad at Glas Celli, but my girls have seen me nekkid. It's a small house, and when we're all getting ready to go somewhere, we're all bound to run into each other on the way to, or from, the bathroom. There's only one. In fact, there's been times I've been getting out of the shower and the girls have both come in to grab something from the dryer, or the hairbrush.

It happens..it's family life.

Ritual on the other hand - no. If they want, once they are of the age of majority and have chosen their paths on their own - they can run off and do skyclad all the want. I have a feeling I'll have at least one nudist in the family anyway..LOL ;)

The nudity issue seems to be a North American problem. I have looked at the issue from my own experience, having come to North America after growing up in Europe. I have no experience with ritual nudity, but plenty with public nudity, and in my experience, there is no relationship between it and child abuse or pedophelia. As a matter of fact, nudists deal very harshly with pedophiles who attempt to infiltrate their organizations. Here is the article I wrote on the subject. It is one of my all-time favorite articles here at Suite101.
