» MoonStarWolf - Creating a BOS with your children

our 3 daughters who are homeschooled & are 15, 11, & 3 years old have started a "sacred book" with me in march of this year.

we put in info that we feel is important to us. for example, we may find something interesting online, in a book or we may write something of our own. then we put it in our BOS. sometimes the info is printed up or hand written. i do all the handwriting in the book. my hubby thinks this is a wonderful & special thing we can share together.

we just use a 5 subject notebook. so far we are 3/4 of the way through it. i would like to hear from other mums who do the same with their children. this is something i'd like to pass along to all 3 girls & future generations in our line.

That is a great idea!

I use five subject notebooks for all kinds of things as well, and I'm now going to go out and get another one for this - I think my girls are definitely going to love this idea!

Thanks! Hey - do you mind if I share this?

You might also want to consider using a 3-ring binder. That's what I use for my personal BOS. I'm using a binder made of recycled milk jugs that I bought while I was in college, but you could get a plain one anywhere and really have fun decorating the outside. And since you can re-arrange the pages, it's easy to discard things you might not want anymore without having to redo the entire book.

Three-ring binders are great for things like that. I have several filled with information I have found on the internet that I would like to keep. Using page protectors makes keeping your pages in perfect condition easier (especially with children), but changing the order of the pages more difficult. Personally, I use the leather-bound journals that you can find at any book store for my BOS and Fam Trad books. They're a little expensive, but they are big, sturdy, and would be great for your children as they get older.
