» LadyKelien - Direction of discussion

As some of you know there are posts missing from this discussion. I deleted them because they were all in context to Thorn. They took away from the point of the article and once he started posting bible verse's turned into a sermon that does not belong on this topic.

This topic is for Pagans and those who wish to learn more about paganism. Our views of Christainity or any other religion that doesn't fall under the heading of pagansim are in part what help to bring us to our paths and are of value only in the context of showing the diffrence between us and them. They are not ment to be debated nor will debate on the value of christainity verses paganism be allowed on this board. I tryed to stop this before it got started but apparently I didnt say it loudly enough. So I will say it now. There is no bible thumping allowed on this topic. Christains who want to convert or defend their faith have no business on this topic. It is for Pagans, pagan friendly and those intrested in possibly becoming pagan and learning more. Any post from this point forward that makes refrance to christainity in such a manner that scripture is quoted will be deleted. I did not take over this topic to deal with fundies but to educate those who wish to find knowledge and to give a place for the pagans on suite 101 to talk without having to deal with fundies. So think twice before posting here. All posts must meet the criteria of being relevant to the topic of paganism. If they do not help to promote that topic they will be removed.

To Darkwolf, I am very sorry this came about due to your very well written article and my discussion of it. Perhaps we can go forward now discussing what this topic is suppose to be about instead of having the bible thrown in our faces.

Rebecca, well said smile Back to our regularly scheduled program, eh? LOL

Dark Wolf, I loved the article! It shows again that folks can't be lumped into one category and that we can all be respectful of each other's beliefs.

I have questions smile But I think I'll check back in the morning when my brain ain't so tired LOL And read your article one more time to let it sink in.

Goodnight smile
Love & Hugs,
Dar

I was curious as to what you think of the similarities between your paticular path and say the Golden Dawn?

I don't know much about the Golden Dawn, but from what I understand, Golden Dawn is a magical system that uses symbolism to connect to divine energy. They use Egyptian Gods and symbols within that system, but that is pretty much all the similarity I can see.

Ok Thanks. I did some study into the Golden dawn and found the Egyptain Gods to play a fairly large role. I didnt learn as much as I probably should have. But, their Ritual the BRH calls upon Isis Osiris and Horus. Crowley put a greater emphasis on it than others did. It can be seen in both the Tarot Deck he helped to create and the book he wrote based upon it. He named both the Deck and the book after Thoth.

I understood how the idea was that Jewish mystism could be effected by the Egyptian Mystism. I was just kind of curious if it worked in reverse. They were after all a part of each others daily lives for a lot of years.

I don't know much about Jewish Mystism, so I can't really say. I think most of that developed after they left Egypt (just a guess).

Egypt is quite popular with the Occult/New Age/ect, but I think they bend it into the shape they want it to be, rather than taking it as is. I don't mind as long as they are honest about what they are doing.

Smiles Well I dont think anyone would argue that the Golden Dawn wasnt honest with how they use the Egyptian Gods. I believe part of why it got included could be that men like Crowley had a fasination with Egypt. He was involved in opening King Tuts Tomb. Then of course during his prime the Rosetta stone was interpreted opening up a better way to look at Egyptian religion. It could be that it was included just because there seemed to be a fasination with everything egyptian during the early 1900's

To Crowley who spent his wedding night in the Kings Chamber of Tuts Tomb, it would only make sense to include the Egyptian in with the rest of it. He could further rationalize that the Hebrews would have done the same thing because of the influnace that Egyptian culture would have had upon their lives.

Crowley was an interesting fellow, and his influence is spread farther than many people know.

During his times, it seems that occultists tried to trace things back to Christian or Hebrew roots in order to give it "legitimacy". Genesis was used as a reference, such as "Cain took the knowledge of x and passed it down" or "The angels taught people x"

That is very true. I on the other hand tend to give ligitamacy to religion based upon its Pagan roots. Christainity for instance has a beautiful thing going in Christmas. Now if they would just move the date back to being a fluxuating day that coinsides with the shortest day of the year they would have at least one thing perfect LOL....
I figure when the attitude of one relgion toward another becomes if you cant convert them steal their rituals and ideas that the ideas had to have been pretty good to begin with LOL

» ehartsay - It is interesting to note here the Heka, is not merely the force

It is interesting to note here the Heka, is not merely the force of 'magic' alone (one which played a part in some creation myths as the supporting power of the 'creative utterance' of the creator-a bit like the 'authoritative utterance' of Genesis), but also a diety in its/his own right (as, of course, were most abstracts).
