» Georgene A. Bramlage - Fine article!

Not quite what I expected in a Bodies topic :+) However, interesting and very well done.

There are also numerous other examples in the plant world of movement...a very common one is the garden or kidney bean, Phaseolos vulgaris. Here structures called pulvini allow the leave to droop to prevent water loss. Also, tendrils in bean plants will curl almost like a cowboy's lasso as the plant elongates and grows.

Also, what has always been interesting to me is that there are different factors responsible for movement in the different groups of plants.

» biogardener - time-lapse photography

Time-lapse photography of plants is very appealing because it shows the movement in plants in a visually perceptible way. I remember seeing Disney's "The Living Desert" movie in my childhood, and the opening up of cactus blooms was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in a movie.
