I have not read of such a woman before. It sounds like she certainly had plans from the start and rode them to fruition - not even letting her children get in the way.

Thanks for the history lesson on an amazing ruler in China's early history.

Thanks Jerri! It's really interesting to read about the conflicting views of Wu Zetian. There are those who have said she was ruthless and cunning and power hungry and criticize her for it and then there are those who maintain she didn't do anything differently than a man would do in her place (which is certainly historically true) and is only criticized because she was a woman who assumed a "man's" role. Funny how so many of our "modern" issues aren't really so modern.
