I really enjoyed the essay on this subject. I am glad that there are other people out there that believe that the Taj Mahal may not have been built by the Muslims but by ancient Hindus. The only book that I have been able to find that discusses this subject is by P. N. Oak. Does anybody know of any other book that does the same? I am writing an essay on this subject in my Senior Seminar class and could use some more resources. Thank You.

Hi victoria-marie. Thanks for dropping by. Unfortunately, you are going to have a hard time finding material to support the view that the Taj Mahal was originally a Hindu structure. It is a definite minority view, though I do not think it needs to be ignored because of that. Try these links:

Taj Mahal and the Great British Conspiracy. The author claims that the British conspired to suppress the truth about the Taj Mahal and other monuments. It seems a preposterous notion, but it's interesting reading.

Shah Jahan Background information on Shah Jahan, very briefly addresses the question of the destruction of Hindu temples, links to further information and a bibliography.

http://www.swordoftruth.com/swordoftruth... Article discussing the issue, with links to books. Be careful with this site though. It is extremely one-sided, to say the least. If you read any of the books, do so with a large grain of salt.

For literature and a discussion about why the Taj Mahal could not possibly be a Hindu structure, go here. http://suite101.com/discussion.cfm/orien...

Good luck with your project. If you're going at it with the view that the Taj Mahal was definitely Hindu you're going to have a hard time finding enough material to cite, I think. Sorry! An alternative, if you get stuck, might be to compare the two viewpoints. You'll find no end of people who will discuss this with you! :-) And far more material.
