Are you really under the impression that our leaders have made absolutely no attempts to stop these fanatics through diplomatic means? These people have decided they hate us so much they're willing to die to kill innocent people just because those people are called "American". And you really think a reasonable discussion can change their minds??
The American Heritage Dictionary's definition of fanatic -- A person marked or motivated by an extreme, unreasoning enthusiasm, as for a cause.
It's the unreasoning part that'll trip you up.
