Can I reincarnate my orchid?!

I received an orchid in August as a gift and I sat it in a windowsill. After a few weeks it started to get brown and dry at the tip. I always wondered if it was supposed to bloom because it was like this long stalk that looked like an spearhead at the top.Anyway, I clipped the tip off and kept the orchid looking good (color and all...) But when I got back from my Christmas vacation the entire "spearhead" was brown and dried up. The stem and the leaves are still green (along with some red in the stem) and I want to know if there is anyway to save the poor thing. Will it ever bloom? Thanks!
