Now I see some leaves coming out close to the top ends and even roots, too! They look very strange. Should I cut and plant them in a different pot?-- posted by chisa » nymphadora - pot to big how do I know if my pot is to big for my orchid, I have tried to read up on it but im still confused, please help.-- posted by nymphadora » hamilmk - Re: Re: Orchids In response to Re: Orchids posted by marimac:Some orchids will grow a new flower spike from other nodes on an existing spike, and some won't. However, they will all grow a new spike with new flowers when ready to do so, if they are well cared for. I've got a white Phalaenopsis that has been in bloom for at least a year (that's how long I've had it.) It put one new spike out from the initial flower spike, and it's got another one coming up. OTOH, I've got some others with empty spikes that haven't put up any new spikes yet. -- posted by hamilmk » hamilmk - Re: leaves on the stem In response to leaves on the stem posted by chisa:This link talks about exactly that: http://www.orchidlady.com/faq.html#5C Basically, you can cut it off and replant it or leave it there and let it grow. I'd leave it on for a few months until it had plenty of roots, and then cut it off and plant it. -- posted by hamilmk » bncancun - Orchids in Mexico I am interested in finding information on growing the wild orchids that grow in the jungle of the Yucatan Pennisula. I have lived here for 4 years and after Hurricane Wilma came through there were thousands of orchids in the street.I picked up a few and have managed to get some blooms. Ineed to know, what do they eat? Will they live indoors (I have managed to get some to stay alive indoors for about 2 years now)? Watering. and so on. I would appreciate any information on this. -- posted by bncancun Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
