» Pdill8 - Past present and future orchids

Let me preface by saying that I have many house plants, some are very healthy others are not. I am a very attentive and well meaning plant person, but likely under educated and under experienced.

I was given 2 dendrobium as gifts 5 or six years ago. When I recieved these plants they were not in bloom. I read some about their care and tended them as well as I understood how to. Both grew many new leaves, but never bloomed. After 2-3 years I was relocating and rehomed them.

In retrospect, I probably simply did not stick it out long enough. I believ these were fairly health plants and were in fairly good environmental conditions.

I was recently given 2 phalaenopsis as gifts. I belive they are doing well, and have a renewed enthusiasm for them.

I am now hoping that if these do well, I would like to add a 3rd, finally one of my own choosing. I have a location in mind, and I would appreciate some advice about what might do well in these conditions and perhaps where to shop for a quality plant.

The spot I have in mind has a south and a shaded westerly window. The plant would be 3 feet from each of these windows. Air flow in this area is probably on the low end, though I could use a fan. In summer my home is between 65-85 degrees and very humid. In wintr it is about 65 and dry, though I'd enjoy a humidity tray for it if necessary.

Perhaps if that works out I have a couple of more places I'd love to try and grow one.

Any advice or commentary would be appreciated.
