Thanks for your comments regarding this & the King Arthur piece.

There's a LOT more to come, as I get into how different areas of Europe (Spain & Portugal are coming up, once I'm past Wagner) were involved in the Crusades and how these situations or literature spinning off from them were treated in opera. Wagner was of course involved with the fantastical (vs. realistic) elements of chivalry -- larger-then-life romantic commitments and the supernatural -- which we get into in all kinds of delicious ways in Handel, too.
