» Tina_Coruth - What a remarkable man!

Hi Beth,

John Wesley Powell certainly was a remarkable man -- ahead of his time in so many ways. I was especially struck by the way he treated the Indians, learning their language and culture. Too bad there weren't more people following his lead.

I enjoyed reading this series!

Tina

I was also amazed at how throughout all the hazardous journeys he took, how it never handicapped him that he only had one arm. One story that I did not include (there's only so much room!) was about how he slipped and fell over a ledge. He hung on with just the one hand until he could finally be rescued some time later.
