» sillygirl36 - medication - over the counter are there any medications that will help my ocd without having to have a prescription?-- posted by sillygirl36 » Cherry - Re: medication - over the counter In response to message posted by sillygirl36:So far there are not any over the counter medications that help OCD. They have done some research on Inositol in Israel, but it was on taking massive quantities and I think that it would need to be under a doctor's care. Besides, the large amounts of Inositol would probably be as expensive as a prescription. Inositol is a supplement, I think related to a B vitamin. It is best to consult your doctor before taking any supplements. They can have side effects, just as prescription medications can. I was scared to death to take medication for my very severe OCD. Finally I did. The Luvox I took didn't work. Then I tried Celexa and WOW! It gave me my life back. I have been taking it for three years and it is amazing. I also had therapy which helped a lot. Another great thing that helped my OCD was the book Brain Lock by Jeffrey Schwartz. Take care! I'll let you know how it works for me.ps, I have tried Inositol powder in the past and it worked great. The problem was that it tended to be expensive for me, you need a lot of it, up to 18 grams a day. I may have to go back on that if the side effects from the other are too much. Dr. Fred Penzel has some good information on Inositol in his book. Thanks, -- posted by blakey
