Sam et al,thanks for writing this article. In a sense, none of us 'normal' people should not forgive ourselves, as we all resort to such techniques when we feel we have to. Many of us feel guilt afterwards, many don't. Sam, you reached a point to feel guilty. I think you would need to congratulate yourself and your therapist. Well done. Just admit to yourself you are a bit better than other people in some areas and other people are a bit better than you. Tough to accept but it is the truth: NOBODY IS PERFECT.
Stop hating yourself. You've done that all your life. Think that you have started doing so much good to so many of us...
I have been away from the site for quite some time, as I needed to stop thinking. I am back now. Maybe not for long. I can not stand the pain that this site reminds me of. There is only one way to keep on moving: concentrate on the good stuff and build on them and take every day, every moment at a time. Life is too short not to enjoy it. Alone or with other people.
I feel that Ns are afraid to enjoy life. They don't know how. They are afraid to be with others in equal terms and simply enjoy it.
If you are really that schizoid, if Ns are really that schizoid, then go on a deserted island. spend time with oneself, enjoy the dawn and sunset. Once we all start appreciating these simple things in life, the fact that we are alive in this wonderful world for only a fraction of a moment, then we could probably get rid of all fear.
I think the one think that Ns feel is fear.
Look at the sun Sam, get rid of fear.
Well, I stayed away too long, and I missed all of you and I feel overwhelmed by emotion. It is also the beginning of the summer, and the sun hopefully will warm everyone's heart..
And one last thing: we are all afraid. We will never function properly unless we face our fears. The same holds true of Ns.
Sam, I am sure you are almost there. Being covered by the N shield might be more comfortable as it is more familiar, but it is so much prettier and easier to live without it.
FYI, I too want to travel constantly if I could. It is only the thought of 'starting fresh'. It is so much easier to 'make it right'.
I promise...
All my love to all
Have a wonderful weekend

» kobayashi - this article gave me chills
This passage stopped me cold:"I home in on the chinks in their laboriously constructed armours. I spot their Achilles' heel and attach to it. I prick the gas bags that most people are. I deflate them. I force them to confront their finiteness and helplessness and mediocrity."
That describes my xN at his worst. He has utter contempt for people he feels are "beneath" him, which turns out to be most people. He prided himself on being able to spot a person's weakness and make them cry. He despised what he considered illogical, emotional arguments.
He did not understand why I would get riled up discussing something that meant something to me - he could never understand my argument that something just "felt" wrong - that I may not have iron-clad logic to justify it, but I knew the truth about a particular situation based on how it felt. He talked down to me, and sooo many others, as if we were illogical and therefore feeble-minded. I get the whole "logical progression of an argument" concept. But not everything needs to be a plan to prove the other person is inferior to you intellecutally. Not everything is, as Sam so accurately states "algorithmic" - thank you Sam for writing this article. It reminds me of what life was like with the xN and helps me get rid of any remaining malignant optimism.
