The Institution of Marriage - A True Ball and ChainRead the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only".
» harveygrund - Your Articles I've read several of your articles today (some, while I should have been working) and can only say, Wow! Or I could use the tired cliche: "a breath of fresh air." I can't, so far, find a single point that I disagree with. I'll have to go back, reread and read the ones I missed -- and check out some of the comments you've received.Regards, -- posted by harveygrund » tyrtaeus - Re: Your Articles In response to message posted by harveygrund:Thank you for you kind words, especially upon this particular article. I was, honestly, expecting a rain of fire and brimstone from any, and all, those who read my work. Especially the female reader! However, I must be honest. I don't trust this whole process of marriage. I certainly do not see it as an act of holy commitment. I honestly see it as more of a socially compulsory act of contrition. And, I only ask God to forgive me once, on one subject. I do not get on my knees for Him, nor do I for society. I am not God's slave, and He is no master, so why should we treat each other in such a manner? -- posted by tyrtaeus » knightcat50 - JOLLY GOOD A WELL THOUGHT OUT ARTICLE...AND I LIKE YOUR PHILOSOPHICAL APPROACH TO THE SUBJECT MATTER. I TEND TO AGREE WITH YOU ON YOUR OBSERVANCES OF THE SOCIETY WE FIND OURSELVES LIVING, IN THIS TIME FRAME.EVEN THOUGH I AM FEMALE, I DO SEE YOUR POINT VERY CLEARLY, AS I HAVE BEEN MARRIED 4 TIMES MYSELF. I HAVE ALSO TRIED THE OTHER ALTERNATIVE....LIVING TOGETHER WITHOUT MARRIAGE. IT'S PRETTY MUCH THE SAME IN MY VIEW, BUT WITHOUT THE HASSLES OF DIVORCE COURT. SOME PEOPLE HAVE A PROBLEM COMMITTING WHETHER THEY SAY THE VOWS, AND SIGN A PIECE OF PAPER, OR NOT. MARRIAGE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE FOR A LIFETIME, AND IT DEFINITELY ISN'T FOR THE FAINT OF HEART, NOR FOR EVERYONE. AS FAR AS RELIGION, AND GOVERNMENT, I THINK YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. BAMMM! I CAN SEE OUR NATION HEADING TOWARD A SCARY PATH, AND SLIPPERY SLOPE, GENERATING FEAR, AND TRYING TO FIND A CURE THROUGH RELIGION, THAT TENDS TO PROMOTE FEAR. A VICIOUS CIRCLE INDEED, WITH CONTROL LURKING IN THE ROOTS, AND THIS TENDENCY IS SPREADING WORLD WIDE. LET'S HOPE LOGIC, AND COMMON SENSE IS NOT COMPLETELY ABANDONED. FEAR DOES, HOWEVER, TEND TO PUSH THESE QUALITIES ASIDE. -- posted by knightcat50 » tyrtaeus - Re: JOLLY GOOD In response to message posted by knightcat50:Thank you, and my apologies for the delay. Holiday vacation... According to your response you are a prime candidate for my argument. Married four times, and Called selfish if we discard such relics of social containment. What are they who call us this? Righteous? I think not. -- posted by tyrtaeus
