» sherbjo - No fruit on fig tree

I had taken a small fig tree and planted it in my backyard a few years ago. The tree was an offshoot of a very large, productive, fig tree. The tree has grown nicely to about 7 feet, but I have not even had a hint of fruit growth from it. I water it properly, fertilize regularly (not too much nitrogen), and wrap it in burlap for the winters. It faces west and gets part-day sun. Still, lots of beautiful leaves but no fruit! Someone told me a fig tree must be planted in one place for at least 7 years before it will bear any fruit. I never heard of this. Can someone give me some advice on what to try?
