Another neat thing that I've done which is pricey, but effective is take old, old pictures to a local fellow who has a much better scanner than I do. He scans the stuff, somehow "cleans it up," and then burns it on to a CD for me. I've also had him make some prints to my specifications for special gifts, etc. As soon as I get my new CD burner, I can make duplicates of his original and send them on to my daughter and anyone else who is interested. Something else I've done is take some old prints to the local store of a photo chain where the personnel are very good and have prints from the 1950's scanned, cleaned up and printed. They weren't as bad as the ones mentioned above. I could also have these scanned onto a CD or now do it myself. Anyway, thanks for a good article...please keep the little hints coming along. -- posted by Georgene A. Bramlage » aggie80 - Re: A Good Kick-in-the-Pants! In response to message posted by Cercis:And it works for things beside genealogy also! It is a great way to share all sorts of information. I really like preserving those family portraits on CD. The stacks of family pictures stashed in a closet or laying on a bookshelf are safe for future use! Thanks for the suggestions and the feedback! -- posted by aggie80 » Ldyk - A wealth of information Mark, I don't know how you do it, but you always seems to amaze me. I just got my cd-rw and I just got my digital camera, now I'm all set and all ears and eyes. Your information is always of great help.. I wish there were more genealogist out there that would write like you do. It helps those of us that don't have the savy for being able to put things into action. Keep it up!-- posted by Ldyk » aggie80 - Christmas Presents Well, I put together a CD-ROM for my family. I burned a copy for each of the families. It included the entire http://www.swarthoutfamily.org website, the initial cut of a personal family HTML based local site and about 2000 photographs taken over the last fifty years, including my parents wedding photos, childhood vacations and family shots. It was well received and I set up a slide show of the CD and left it running for a couple of hours so everyone could enjoy. Great fun!-- posted by aggie80
