» Barbara Nicholson Bell - What a great subject!

Of course, Lord of the Rings is a prime example of the use of geneology in fiction. How much less rich our understanding of that world would be without the family histories!

Isn't Dune also heavily dependent on family histories?

I'm also currently watching the new Forsyte Saga on PBS, and having read the entire Galsworthy epic, I remember that it is based on a very complex family whose relationships were often hard to remember.

And, Proust's Remembrance of Things Past is full of interesting family relationships.

There are many great novels we could list, aren't there!
