» Fort_Spunky - Organizations Hi Mark,I was excited to see the topic of this article because I recently found out that one of my great-great-grandfathers, who has been a real brick wall for me, had Masonic services at his funeral. Not too long ago on one of the genealogy sites I saw something about how to research Masonic membership, but at the time I didn't know I needed to do that so I didn't take notes on the details. I haven't had time to track it down again. So I'm looking forward to your future articles. I enjoy your site. I think genealogy is fascinating. I just wish I had more time to work on it. Thanks for an informative and interesting article. -- posted by Fort_Spunky » mvpm356 - Fraternal History - Survey of Fraternal Groups A brief history of many of the major fraternal groups can be found at: http://www.abaris.net/freemasonry/marin-...Included is information relating to the history, ritual and background of Freemasonry, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, Knights of the Golden Eagle, Knights of the Maccabees, Foresters, Woodmen, United Ancient Order of Druids, E Clampus Vitus, Elks, Moose, Eagles, Ordo Templi Orientis, Aurum Solis, etc. The site also contains a bibliography of reference, historical and ritual books. -- posted by mvpm356 » mvpm356 - Virtual Museum of Fraternal Lithographic Images The Survey of Fraternal History at http://www.abaris.net/freemasonry/marin-... is now also a virtual museum of scarce 19th and very early 20th century fraternal lithographs. Fraternalists of all traditions can join hands and enjoy the graphic visual content of these examples of the lithographer's art from the so-called golden age of fraternalism. It is a shame that modern reproductions, when available, seldom capture the vibrancy and detail as well as these early printers who obviously took great pride in their work. Descriptions of the lithos can still be found in the bibliography at the end of the survey.Be sure to check the appendices for additional images. Also, there is a photo gallery of the Knights of Schlaraffia from San Francisco (http://www.abaris.net/freemasonry/marin-... Please enjoy the pictures and have a Happy New Year! -- posted by mvpm356 » aggie80 - Thanks, Stranger! Well, I have been hoping that mvpm356 would update his/her profile and I could use a name to thank them with! But, I've waited much too long to acknowledge my appreciation. As mysterious as you are, I am grateful, and I suspect that the other readers are, too, for the additional information, and the effort you took to come back with more. Swarthout, Esq. -- posted by aggie80 » mvpm356 - Survey of Fraternal History & Lithograph Museum Moving Please change your URL's to http://www.freemasonry.biz/marin-fratern... from http://www.abaris.net/freemasonry/marin-... The old URL will continue to function in the immediate future but will eventually go away. Also, look for a text revision (addition) to many of the pages of the Survey of Fraternal History in the near future, including additional information about the Women's Benefit Association, Knights of Pythias, and others. -- posted by mvpm356 » mvpm356 - Survey of Fraternal History and Museum of Fraternal Lithographs The URL has again been updated. The new URL is:http://mill-valley.freemasonry.biz/marin... The old URL's will continue to forward for the immediate future. The site has been updated to include many additional fraternal lithographs, and pages have been added for the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Orange Order, Royal Black Knights of the Tribe of Israel, and others. Interesting to see from the fraternal lithographs the positive value systems these fraternities fostered and continue to foster. A fairly comprehensive history of the Lodge sponsoring this research has also been added. This history includes a wealth of information about the pioneer families of Mill Valley, CA. Hopefully this will prove of use to family genealogists. -- posted by mvpm356
