» Goodelyfe - Democracy down the drain in the UK The apparent victory of Tony Blair sets a new low point in British politics and the general alienation of Westminster to the ordinary populace. The Blair "Which" Labour Party swept into power on a mandate of about 25% of the popular vote - not a ringing endorsement in anyone's language. The victory demonstrates the rule by specialist interest groups that has strangled the vitality of democracy. Blair has no need to spread his message very far to rule. However, to bring the people with him, he has a major problem. It is known that he wants Britain to join the Euro currency despite 70% of Britains opposing such a move. To do it he needs to have a referendum or else be accused of cowardice in the face of popular opinion. Then we will see the real British election - a referendum upon Blair's leadership - under the guise of entering the Euro zone.-- posted by Goodelyfe
