» DrLoveGland - tHE fEELERS............Hmmmmmm......

The Feelers are one of the lamest bands to ever come out of N.Z. It's a pity that the N.Z music buying/listening public have such bland and uncultured taste in music. The Feelers music is far too derivitive and unoriginal, sounds just like M20 and all those other american bands. Will
radio stations, T.V shows, music lovers ever tap into real N.Z music?? Try some Straitjacket Fits, they wrote better, more passionate, more original music than the Feelers ever have. YOU ARE ALL MARKETING AND RADIO SLAVES, DON'T BE FOOLED INTO THINKING THAT'S ALL THATS OUT THERE!!!!! FIND IT FOR YOURSELF, DONT BE A SHEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some people in NZ seem to make a habit of hassling the Feelers. However, I like them, and am not afraid to say so smile

The thousands of fans can't be wrong

» claire_dg - OPEN UP YOUR MINDS!

I personally think it's time New Zealand stopped putting down our local talent and faced up to the fact that: perhaps so many New Zealand bands go unnoticed and unsigned because no one wants to acknowledge them. We spend all our money on the latest dance album, or US single, and then complain because NZ have brought out some band that are "talentless and unoriginal".
Oh, come on!
Would you like your straitjacket fits, for example, if they were played on the radio all the time and everyone loved them? Honestly? I don't believe they're valid reasons to judge a band! Have you even TRIED to like the Feelers?
Personally, I love the Feelers, and have for ages - I knew them when they were pub-unknowns and not at all radio bait - and sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Yeah, the Straitjacket Fits are fantastic. But so are PLENTY of bands. The Feelers come up with mood-affecting, thought-provoking pop. They are not expected to do anything else. They don't promise anything more.
They make good, decent music and so many people enjoy it. Perhaps it is indeed narrow minded of those to cast them off in such a unexplained hurry. You don't have to like them to accept them and encourage them as local talent. We can't have 500 Straitjacket Fits or the likes.
Give me a good reason why NZ bands like the Feelers are worthless, and I'll show you someone who won't open their ears.

» AR_de_Bruin - Feelers etc

It's going to be reality that not all bands are going to make it, and this is regardless of talent in some cases. You could make terrible music and still heaps of records- look at all the plastic pop bands around at the moment.

In the end a band is successful because a certain amount of people liked the record and bought it. So hard as it may seem, there are people out there who like Britney Spears and the like. So that's about it. The Feelers have done well and whether you like them or not is your own business!

» claire_dg - WEll, erm...

As much as you are correct in your statements, I'm not sure if comparing the Feelers to Britney Spears is at all balanced. I wouldn't compare them to the Doors either, but still....
Just had to mention that.

cheers.

Thought the article was great, by the way. Nice to get a fair and un-biased view on the feelers!
Well done.

» AR_de_Bruin - Feelers

Hi Claire....

Thanks for the comments re. the Feelers article!

I do like the Feelers....that's why I wrote the article in that way.

I don't think I was actually comparing them to Britney- I was more using it as an example.

Basically, you're right about what you said a couple of posts back, people do unfairly put them down. Though this was a couple of years ago (the article's that old.)

But, ultimately what people like is their own tastes, so I guess slagging anyone off for their music tastes is pretty useless. Though you can't agree with some music tastes....TrueBliss etc. anyone?
