» RichardSpeaks - Re: As A Former Fundamentalist In response to Pinky102Most of his remarks are just stats. How valid those stats are remains to be seen. But I get the feeling he is seeking to build some kind of anticipation for his forthcoming book. That says a lot. I don't have the rest of the posts but I will go looking for them eventually to see what his conclusions are. But you can bank on being left hanging; otherwise, why do a book? I'm also hoping that others who read this will come up with some stats or opinions of their own. I'm sure there are those who won't agree with the author. -- posted by RichardSpeaks » Pinky102 - 10% In response to Re: As A Former Fundamentalist posted by RichardSpeaks:I think it was either The Jesus Freak or Grube who, in another thread about the fastest growing religion in America and in the world claimed it is Islam. And, in a remark about how many Christians are in America said that only about 10% of the numbers quoted for America are real. The other 90% are just fellow travelers--people along for the ride. -- posted by Pinky102 » RichardSpeaks - Re: 10% In response to Pinky102I am one who has remarked on numerous occasions that Islam is the fastest growing religion. That's what I have read or heard in many different venues. True or not, now who knows? But it's like 110 or so countries that consider themselves Islamic. And most of the Western nations have relatively large Islamic populations. Just how many of them are radical remains to be seen. I heard this morning on some talk show that Osama Bin Laden would like nothing more than for the West to declare war on Islam itself. That would be the fastest way to "rally the troops." The West is quite specific: no war on Islam. On Bin Laden, yes. Islam, no, no, no. So, Bin Laden will keep up his pressure on various groups to keep the pressure on the West by bombing and other tactics. He wants war on Islam. He considers himself just a cog in the wheel. Wonderful!! Why I went that direction, I have no idea. -- posted by RichardSpeaks » Pinky102 - Re: Re: 10% In response to Re: 10% posted by RichardSpeaks:"He wants war on Islam." Guess what! The Christian Dispensationalists want the same war. Maybe we'll get to enjoy their "final conflict". If only there were a way to be sure we could survive such an idiotic gamble.

You know what that means, especially when the nukes are in the hands of radicals like Osama. With Pakistan being in the position it's in, no telling the next move. It's interesting. Armaggedon comes out of conflict between all the Children of Abraham. Not unbelievers, not quacks, but Christians, Jews, and Muslims, all Children of the Book. All three of those religions have been the cause of more suffering in this world than any other single ideology. The Hindus have done their share, so have the Sikhs. But the Children of Abraham hate each other more than any other groups can even begin to hate. Ironic, isn't it?? God bless and protect the Buddhists. And the New Thoughters, of course! -- posted by RichardSpeaks » sacred_insights - Re: Re: Re: Re: 10% In response to Re: Re: Re: 10% posted by RichardSpeaks:God bless and protect the Buddhists. And the New Thoughters, of course! LOL how about adding Spiritualists to that list? Also agree that stats are not totally reliable and that most folks don't know how to read and cite them properly when it comes to articles such as the one linked to this thread. Best book I ever read was How to Lie with Statistics. It shows the common fallacies that researchers and commentators fall into when using stats. I think it should be mandatory reading in senior high school and first year college and university courses. There are three kinds of lies, according to Mark Twain: Lies, damn lies, and statistics. I think that pretty well sums it up, don't you?? -- posted by RichardSpeaks » sacred_insights - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 10% In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 10% posted by RichardSpeaks:There are three kinds of lies, according to Mark Twain: Lies, damn lies, and statistics.
