In response to Re: Personal Responsibility/Confession posted by hawknut:If my memory serves me, those were some of the things Torquemada said. As servants of God they were correcting the mistakes made by Christ. The cardinal points out how Jesus ignored the important issues of life by not having accepted the temptations offered by Satan.

I think this needs an article from you and a thread of its own, don't you think? I'd really like to hear more about this conversation between Jesus and the cardinal.

In response to Pinky102First, finally saw the picture of Yupper. Cute!
Torquemada was right in this regard: perfection i.e. Jesus, does not know how imperfection lives. It has no real concept. Imperfection is the bridle veil of the universe. It wears it well, but it seeks to share it, with its creatures, its worlds, its doctrines, dogmas and theories--even its gods. But Jesus did not share in the imperfection of those he was "called" and "created" to save. He said to cast all our cares upon him. To do that means we no longer grow. We no longer stretch. We need to be imperfect in order to reach, to grab, to correct. God would have been wiser to send Lucifer the Fallen, the Imperfect as the savior. (Actually, he did. In the Garden.) We need an imperfect friend who understands, not a perfect savior who doesn't.
Torque was right, though misguided.
And yes, Pinky, you need to do a thread on this issue. I'm finished.

In response to sacred insights"I do not understand how his death on the cross and resurrection freed us from that kind of law."
The only law the Bible is really dealing with is the Levitical, or Mosaic, Law, known as the law of sin and death. That is the law that Jesus came to do away with. That's why his followers were persecuted by "the Jews." The Jews saw the movement as a threat to the very foundations of Judaism. And they had good reason to be wary. They had been attacked, threatened, chased out their homelands enough times to be cautious of anything that even looked like a threat.
But all that notwithstanding, the only law that Jesus came to do away with was the Levitical law. Nothing else.
He didn't, but what the heck. I like Christianity anyway. It has so many holes in it, one can throw balls through them. I like that too. Makes for interesting chat.

In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Cardinal Torquemada posted by RichardSpeaks:Ok but Christianity is a myth that is way overblown? And in becoming so well known it became accepted and has developed an industry all its own (the church) that is not about to give up the power that Christianity to 2000 + years to build.
But as with all great empires there is always a decline and fall. And in this case it may well be that you and I and others like us are walking away from Christianity and finding new and modern forms of spirituality that are more in tune with our society. At least that what I think anyway...
And yes it is interesting to chat about it, but I also am interested in other religious myths as well. I do hope there will be a broadening of the discussions here on Suite to include some of the other religious myths maybe in comparison to Christianity.

Perhaps you could start a new topic. I bet you'd do well at it.

I'll give it some serious thought. It's a heavy order. I see there are sites where Dostoyevsky is seriously discussed.
