I love it!! "I have no certainty that I am not the only one in existence and the rest of you are part of my powerful imagination. Neither do you." The years were 1973 and 1975. I was thoroughly convinced it all was the substance of my imagination. Then, I fell screaming though space into the bottomless pit of the voids as I watched the galaxies flash by. All I could hear was the laughter of some unknown beings in the distance. Yup. I went through that part where I saw that it was me and whatever I thought about. In a way, Richard, that is the truth of the matter, now, isn't it? I think it is as true as a lot of the stuff we hear. And, we have to raise ourselves up above the bull shit we're fed day by day. We are the lambs. And, we are being led to the slaughter. But, so what! Huh! Grab hold and hang on--it's a wonderful ride. Even our mistakes are worthwhile.

We rarely, if ever, learn from our pleasures, mostly our pains. And our struggles rather than than the easy stuff. -- posted by RichardSpeaks » Pinky102 - Re: Re: Existential Anxieties In response to Re: Existential Anxieties posted by RichardSpeaks:You're starting to sound like an old man who has been around the block more times than he can remember. Welcome to the club.

If we didn't make mistakes, how would we ever learn anything? I've heard is said that, perhaps, Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden for millions of years before they finally sinned. And, once they sinned, they had their first kid shortly thereafter. Thank God that they finally figured something out. Duhhuhhh? Millions of years of seeing Eve in the altogether and not getting any ideas? What a klutz.

(I'm too lazy to get up from the computer and go over to the bookcase right now, so it might be 28. Y'know, in the time it's taking to type this excuse, I could have gotten the Bible. Oh, well. . .) In that passage God says, "Let us make make [humanity] in our own image and likeness. . ." What do you all think that actually means? Your answers should prove interesting. And I hope Bo sees this and puts in a word or two. Also, Pinky102, I've been around the block a time or two. You read my article on vegetarianism. Also, I have been ministering since 1990. You learn a lot that way, if, and that's a big IF, you listen to what you're saying and the feedback you get. Ultimately, I have yet to meet anyone who actually knows anything. Lots of facts and opinions, but you can fit the actual knowledge into a thimble. However, a thimble full of knowledge is actually a great deal, if you think about it. Right?? -- posted by RichardSpeaks » ArthurRuger - Re: Re: Re: Re: Existential Anxieties In response to Re: Re: Re: Existential Anxieties posted by HarvestMoon:Sin has been incorrectly defined and then institutionalized for the most part as a wicked act, something that is an affront to God who cannot "tolerate sin with any degree of allowance." Whoever started that notion so long ago has wreaked a permanent havoc within a believing Christian society. It suggests that the God of Compassion is obsessed with morality as the foundation of defining Goodness – and also suggests that therefore we too should obsess on sin. Sin originally meant "missing the mark," as in, to "try and not succeed". If the "sin" has negative consequences on someone else then one is guilty of missing the mark with a wider and more serious consequence. In any regard, sin meant a choice based on poor or faulty judgment. A changed meaning and image of sin as something immoral which is then married to the image of a judgmental and punitive God creates in our lives a sense that sin is something connected with the more powerful word, "evil". It becomes easy to accept the idea that the monarchical God is offended because when we "sin"; because we commit evil acts. -- posted by ArthurRuger » HarvestMoon - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Existential Anxieties In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Existential Anxieties posted by RichardSpeaks:In that passage God says, "Let us make make [humanity] in our own image and likeness. . ." What do you all think that actually means? I think it means exactly the opposite--let's create God in our own image and likeness, only with impossible standards so that it seems more God-like. It still holds true today, because when I paint a picture of a loving God and beliefs that pass the "fruits of the spirit" test, Christians tell me I am a satan worshipper who knows nothing of God. *shrug* Kaci -- posted by HarvestMoon » HarvestMoon - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Existential Anxieties In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Existential Anxieties posted by HarvestMoon:Richard, I was just over at Arthur's topic and read your thoughts about the image and likeness question. Bravo! I hadn't connected it like that but it makes wonderful sense! Kaci -- posted by HarvestMoon » RichardSpeaks - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Existential Anxieties In response to HarvestMoonThanks for your comments. The only god I can accept is the One who is all, in all, and through all, which includes me, and it includes you. It even includes those who call us bad people. But, anything less is just another tribal god.
