Two things: I am not a literalist either, but then you already know that. Second, I think somewhere along the line I have either read Jacoby's book, or at least perused it at the bookstore. Let me know your thoughts.

I see the entire Bible as allegory. To be sure, there is some history involved, but only to support the stories. Charles Fillmore, co-founder in the 19th c. of the wonderful group called Unity put together a great Bible dictionary called The Metaphysical Bible Dictionary. It puts a non-literal spin on just about everything in the Bible, even the historical parts to some extent. You might want to check that one out. Just for the fun of it. I don't know where you might find it; some of the bookstores like Borders and others may carry it. But if you can't find it and want to, let me know and I will find you a copy somewhere. Only if you want one, of course.
