Carlton Fisk, AKA Pudge, grew up in Charlestown, NH. He was a catcher for the Red Sox and then the White Sox. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of fame in 2000. He attended the University of NH on a basketball scholarship -- hoping to one day play for the Celtics! Again, congrats, Grimace. -- posted by Tina_Coruth » grimaceb - Pudge In response to message posted by Tina_Coruth:And let's not forget his most famous play, waving a ball fair during the 12th inning of Game 6 of the 1975 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds. The shot would become the game winning home run. Of course, it was still Boston, so they lost Game 7. Babe Ruth always did have the last laugh. -- posted by grimaceb » Tina_Coruth - Re: Pudge In response to message posted by grimaceb:That's it, Grimace, rub it in. We long suffering Red Sox fans will have our day yet!! LOL In the mean time, plays like the one you mentioned sure are sweet and get us through. Thanks for reminding us of that great play - I appreciate your posts! Tina -- posted by Tina_Coruth » Mugwump53 - Maybe for you....... This may have been suddenly so easy for you, but not for me. Talk about not even being close! The "clues" did not help an athletically-challenged soul like me in the least. And it is not only in sports that I am apparently challenged. How is Pudge a nickname for Santa Claus.Oh, well. I'm going back to my site on politics where at least you know things aren't supposed to make sense. {G} Good question. I am waiting anxiously for the next one, not that I'll get it, but it's still fun. Thanks. -- posted by Mugwump53 » Tina_Coruth - Re: great fun... In response to message posted by Red:Hi Mary, Thank you for participating! I will have to think of another question. I appreciate your support. I love the photo in your signature! I don't know how you do it. You always have great trivia questions. I'm finding that it's very tricky to try to give a clue that won't give away the answer too easily! Even framing the question can be a task. As to how Pudge could be a nickname for Santa Claus - Pudge as in Pudgie -- chunky, heavyset, overweight. I think my love for "whodunnits" is influencing my clues. {g} I'm glad you're not giving up on my trivia questions. Thank you for participating -- I appreciate your support! My only hope is if the question is about the Red Sox or Bruins of long ago!
