» Mugwump53 - On Great Pond

What a great article, Tina! I loved it. (I am sorry to admit I just got around to reading it, as I am just getting over a bug.)

I, too, love the show West Wing, and also want no phone calls during that hour on Wednesday nights. But I bet you already guessed that.

An interesting (to me, at least) bit of trivia about On Golden Pond. I know it was filmed in New Hampshire (and I pronounced it correctly, honest). But it was supposed to be filmed in Maine. I grew up in the Belgrade Lakes area, the largest of which is Great Pond. The local story has it that the author spent the summer writing the book in a summer cabin on Great Pond, and wanted to film it there. The county council, or whatever local governing body was in charge, refused the permits, and the filming company went looking for an identical type of lake. They certainly found it.. When I saw the movie, I would have thought it was filmed on Great Pond. (The local story also has the working title of the novel as On Great Pond instead of On Golden Pond, but it was changed before publishing)

Thought that might be of interest. Let's hope they read your article and make some changes.
