Today I saw Oprah Winfrey plugging the book like mad, with plans afoot to do a program devoted to Morrison and her book. Of course, Winfrey has been a major promoter of Morrison's work on television. What's YOUR take on "Paradise"? Winning the Nobel Prize provides a modest bump upwards for recipients, as does the Pulitizer Prize, although the latter has much less influence. Oprah Winfrey's reading selections are of little interest to me, but they have made millionaires of the authors she has chosen to feature on her program. Apparently Oprah's fans rush to bookstores to buy the recommended titles. The fact has driven publishers crazy because she refuses to announce the new book to be featured prior to airing of the program, making it impossible for book stores to be stocked up.
